The Hospitality Industry is the largest industry in the world. It has a low barrier to entry for most positions and still allows one to walk into a position and rapidly grow in stature and earnings in a relatively short period of time. Attitude and Understanding the industry are key components to a fast rise in responsibilities. The purpose of this book is to stimulate your thinking about hospitality and the opportunities it affords depending on your job preferences and basic skills levels. Not many of us wake up when we are young or old saying to ourselves I want to be a housekeeper or a waiter or bellman or doorman, yet in 1984 a doorman at the Hay Adams Hotel in Washington D.C. was making $70,000 a year. He achieved that because he remembered the clientele and welcomed them over and over again through the years. Joseph's talent came from knowing exactly what his service to the hotel, guest and ownership required to excel. The function of his job was minimal but the flare and deeply embedded service mentality made the difference.
