Ulster-Scots Language Yesterday and Today

This volume brings together sixteen years of research on Ulster-Scots language and its connections with the United States. Sections include the coming of Scots people and language to Ulster in King James' Plantation and the linguistic landscape of Ulster in the 17th century; the revival of Ulster Scots as a literary medium in the 18th century; the migration of Ulster Scots language to North America and its influence on American English today; 19th- and 20th-century literature in Ulster Scots; Robert Gregg, founder of Ulster-Scots studies; the Ulster-Scots Language Society and the Ulster-Scots revival; and the status and role of Ulster Scots language and identity in the present day. The volume also features an appendix of texts illustrating Ulster Scots.
