Mom - I Cut My Leg

(Author) Dennis P O'Neill O'Neill Dennis PIt's story telling time for some young children as they eagerly crowd in close to their teacher, parent, or a new story teller. Their minds are open and eagerly waiting to become immersed in a new story. In this my second children's book, I wanted to go back to my earlier days of learning medicine. Who hasn't seen or heard the cries of a young child who has fallen down and cut his/her arm or leg? In this book I wanted to remove some of their fears from these all too common occurrences in their lives. I wanted to help them to see beyond their superficial cuts and to understand what is really going on inside their body's injury. Good pictures are also a great way to help them in their understanding of how their body fixes their cuts. To increase their understanding of this process, I used several illustrations filled with cartoon-like characters that represented the various parts of their blood and skin. The sheer fascination of a young child's mind is unimaginable. I saw their curiosity and fascination first hand at many of my readings.
