The Inns and Taverns of ''Pickwick''

This curious literary artifact is a travelogue of sorts, a guidebook to the real inns and taverns mentioned in Charles Dickens' first novel, The Posthumous Papers of the Pickwick Club, or, more familiarly, The Pickwick Papers. The 1836-7 comic serial was a phenomenon in its day, and was, in the mind of Dickens scholar BERTRAM WALDROM MATZ (1865-1925), "England's classic book of humor."
