"Just like the famous quote from Mark Twain, the reports of the death of EU law in the syllabus of UK law degrees have been greatly exaggerated. One thing that the UK's decision on 23 June 2016 to leave the EU has not done is diminish the importance of the EU to the UK legal system. The UK's exit from the EU has not changed the fact that they are an important trading partner, and therefore the relationship between the EU27 and the UK in the post-'Brexit' landscape will undoubtedly require UK lawyers to retain an understanding of EU law for the foreseeable future. The challenge for EU law scholars and law students in the UK will be the need to view the EU's organisational structure and laws from a different perspective: that of a third-party country affected by, but not bound by, the EU structure and the rules that are binding on Member States. EU law rules and principles will continue to be important as trade with the EU will require adherence to those standards. There is an ever-expanding list of areas of law that fall within the competence of the EU, with law being made for the benefit of its Member States. It is also an area of law which is rapidly changing and has become very topical, as countries consider their place within the EU and its future development. Although there has not been any treaty change since the Treaty of Lisbon in 2009, this is still important because of the changes that this treaty made to the EU"--
